This is a delightful Exhibition and not one to miss.

Townsville Art Society Inc. (TAS) welcomes you to the 2024 miniatures exhibition, Little Treasures. Miniature art is a form of painting that is deeply rooted in many cultures and spans centuries, being traced back to ancient Egyptian manuscripts and scrolls. Traditionally, a miniature is not merely about size, but also the detail which differentiates it from a small painting, and all techniques important in larger paintings, such as hatching, stippling, perspective, composition, and colour are necessary.

Historically, the term ‘miniature’ regarding a painting had nothing to do with size but comes from the term ‘minium’ (used for the red lead paint used in manuscripts) and ‘miniare’ (Latin for ‘to colour with red lead’), hence the concept of a little brush with colour.

A range of media including pen, ink, watercolour, oil, and acrylic have been explored in the delivery of these Little Treasures.

TAS, formed in 1962, is a not-for-profit, community-based organization with a substantial member base, consisting of local artists who operate a gallery and classroom, organise the annual TAS Art Awards Exhibition as well as the annual Little Treasures Exhibition at the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery.
